Criticizes Steve Knight’s Extreme and Callous Anti-Women Agenda
Santa Clarita, Calif. – Today, Bryan Caforio, Congressional candidate for California’s 25th District, is proud to receive the endorsement of California Attorney General Kamala Harris. Caforio’s opponent, Rep. Steve Knight, has promoted an agenda that strips away a woman’s health care rights and defunds vital women’s health centers.
“As a prosecutor, I’ve fought my entire career to get justice for victims of some of the worst crimes imaginable — crimes like rape. It’s one of the most heinous crimes, one that often robs victims of self-worth and hope. The idea that some politicians would try to limit any rape victim’s access to health care options and abortion services is deeply troubling. No politician should be able to dictate a woman’s health care choices,” said Attorney General Harris. “This issue is one of the reasons I am strongly supporting Bryan Caforio for Congress. I know he will stand up for women by fighting to protect funding for women’s health centers that provide vital healthcare services like cancer screenings and birth control. And he’s the only candidate in this race who will fight to protect women’s right to make their own healthcare decisions.”
Attorney General Harris has dedicated her career to protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities – women, children, immigrants, and the poor. As chief law enforcement officer for the state, she has fought for all Californians by taking on international gangs, oil companies and big banks, while also promoting criminal justice reform, a clean environment, and public safety.
“I’m proud to receive the endorsement of Attorney General Harris, a true champion for the voiceless,” said Caforio. “The women and families of the 25th Congressional District need a representative who respects their rights and will listen to their priorities, because when women thrive, America succeeds. In Congress I will stand up for pro-family and pro-women policies and ensure women have control of their reproductive rights and access to vital health services.”
Caforio was born and raised in Southern California by two public school teachers, attended UCLA and Yale Law School, worked for a United States federal judge, and practices as an attorney taking on some of the world’s biggest banks. Bryan lives in Santa Clarita with his wife Lisa, who serves as a Deputy City Attorney at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.
The 25th District covers northern Los Angeles County and part of Ventura County including the Antelope Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita, and Simi Valley. President Obama won the district in 2008, and experts consider this race a toss-up . Last year Democratic registration eclipsed Republican registration, and the district is now majority-minority. National Republicans list Congressman Knight as one of their most vulnerable incumbents.
